Richard Chartier, LICSW
Richard Chartier is a Licensed Independent Social Worker who earned his Master of Social Work degree at Rhode Island College. He has practiced as a Clinical Social Worker during the past thirty years. He has worked in a variety of Outpatient Clinics in both Rhode Island and Southeastern Massachusetts, and has spent the past twenty years doing private practice as well. In addition to his work, he is a volunteer at the Rhode Island Free Clinic providing therapy to those who are unable to get treatment due to a lack of insurance or money.
He is well versed in the treatment of adults experiencing a wide variety of psychiatric disorders, substance abuse and relationship problems. He utilizes a number of techniques including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Positive Psychology, Mindfulness Strategies, and Supportive Psychotherapy. His goal is to help decrease the suffering in a person’s life so that they can enjoy their lives to the fullest extent possible. He is experienced in providing indivdual, couple, family and group psychotherapy
He believes that confidentiality is the cornerstone to good treatment. He has a calm and accepting manner which serves to instill confidence and openness during the therapeutic session. He utilizes goal oriented techniques so that eveyone involved is aware of the issues being worked on and what must be done to attain those goals. His attitude and approach facilitate positive responses to treatment in relatively short periods of time.
