About Anchor Counseling Center

Anchor Counseling Center is a private practice that provides Mental Health Services to children, adolescents, adults, and families. We believe in providing professional, reliable, and consistent counseling, and child psychiatry to improve the well-being of all of our patients.

We first opened our doors in Cumberland, Rhode Island in 2009. We subsequently moved that office to our current site in Lincoln, RI, and soon after opened three other Rhode Island offices, one in Cranston, East Providence, and now in East Greenwich. We will begin to provide services in West Greenwich/Exeter area. In the welcoming, calming, and nurturing environment these offices provide, we have treated more than 10,000 patients since 2009, and our firm commitment to each of them over that time has included actively staying abreast of and applying the latest research-based treatment approaches.

The Anchor Counseling Center staff currently includes more than two dozen therapists, and a child psychiatrist, specializing in an array of mental health issues. All of our clinicians have been professionally verified by and listed with Psychology Today. Their education includes Master’s Degrees at a minimum, and they are all independently licensed, which means they have been practicing for at least two years after completing graduate school.

Our clinicians specialize in mental health issues such as Anxiety Disorders (OCD, PTSD, GAD, Social Anxiety and Specific Phobias), Mood Disorders (Depression, Bipolar Disorder), Eating Disorders, Addiction, Anger Management, Trauma, Grief and Loss, Marital Issues, Behavior Disorders (ODD, Conduct Disorder), the Autism Spectrum, Personality Disorders, Cognitive Disorder, Sexual Issues, Couples Therapy, Marriage Therapy, Neuropsychological Testing and Attachment Issues.

At Anchor Counseling Center, we use many modalities of treatment. We believe in meeting patients wherever they are in life and will use a psycho-dynamic approach to help people help themselves. We work with patients to develop treatment plans that help guide them through their therapeutic processes.

Our therapists may use Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Solution-focused Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Imagery, Relaxation Techniques, Rational-Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Family Systems, and traditional Psychotherapy.

Although we always try therapy before medication, our professional staff includes a board-certified child psychiatrist who, when appropriate, can assess our patients to see if employing medication in conjunction with therapy is a useful course of action.

Anchor Counseling Center also offers consultation to schools, supports parents and children through psychological testing, and makes recommendations for additional services that children might need to ensure better outcomes in their academic settings.

Whatever issues might be affecting you, we focus on listening to you closely from our initial contact with you. Our staff is trained to ask the sort of questions that allow them to identify the therapist whose skills and experience best match your needs or those of your family members. We have set up a “patient portal” that allows you to fill out necessary paperwork prior to coming to our office, so that your time with our therapists is spent working on the issues that are of the greatest importance.

We promise to work with you, your family, and your primary care physician or pediatrician to promote the healthiest life possible for all concerned. Our goal is to be there for you and encourage and help motivate you to make the changes you need or want.

Our therapists are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., and on Saturdays as well. You can call us Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to arrange an appointment. The phone number is 401-475-9979.

Once you become one of our patients, we will be here for you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can call us with a non-life-threatening emergency at 872-ACCRI-03. There are no pagers; your phone calls go straight through a real voice every time.
